part 1 .
Ali Noor
I thought it’d be interesting to share my first encounters with my fellow colleagues or seniors from the industry so thought of start writing a series with a different celeb each time . For this time I have Ali Noor .
Ali might not know this , but the first time I saw him was at a ‘Coven ‘ concert . I might be 16 then . The underground rock and metal scene was thriving. Occasional performances were held by struggling or striving bands , mostly at the Alhamra Hall one . A little more known bands like ‘ Coven ‘ , ‘Dog tag ‘ or “The Trip ‘ were amongst more respected , therefore you would see more chicks at their shows . Hence more boys . End result … a packed hall .
A vaguely remember the performance since getting a chick to notice you was a priority by our entire gang of wannabees and your presence at a rock concert was the key . It meant that since you were into this alternative western style of music and spoke English with an accent and despised any kind of Desi music , automatically made you a cool deep dude with quality ears . As the concert started, what I do remember is a nice sounding band that sounded louder than the vocals and Ali trying to stay in key by putting a finger in one of his ears. I think the girls definitely had their focus on him …. So we left the show empty handed with buzzing ears.
My second encounter with Ali Noor , which he would not remember I believe ,was at the Pearl Continental . Must be 1998 or 99. I had gone there for my regular daily “ Get your portrait made live in 20 minutes “ session and saw him sitting in the lobby by himself . I thought it would be cool to go speak to him since he was the lead vocalist of an underground rock band and I was aspiring to be one. I thought of what I could speak to him about .So I went upto him, said hello hi whatever and asked “ Sir I wanted to ask , how do these singers like Bon jovi and Axil rose hit those high notes in November Rain and Bed or Roses ? He answered ‘ It’s a technique in singing called ‘ Falsetto’ and they’re not singing in their actual voice. ‘ I was like ‘ Ohhh ‘ .
My third encounter with him , which I think he remembers , was when a common friend Wajahat had asked me ‘ Hey , would you wanna go to a Noori concert ?’ This was many years later. A time when I was struggling to get my first song ‘ channo ‘ recorded and made a video out of . I was at a stage where I might not even have been allowed inside the concert ; instead I was taken to their apartment in Karachi where they were getting ready for the show , so imagine the level of my self esteem . I didn’t give it a second thought and tagged along . As I entered I witnessed a bunch of very enthusiastic band members, most with wet hair as they’d just gotten out of the shower .( No , there were no drugs, alcohol or chicks wrapped in towels). Ali was , i think , putting his socks on and the most hyper out of the gang . As I was introduced , he asked ‘Have you ever been to a Noory concert before ?” I was like ‘ No ‘ . So he said something on the lines of ‘ You’ve seen nothing then‘ . It seemed like he was ready to take over the world and had it all sorted out down to the last detail . He told me that they’ve already composed three albums and the first album that they wrote , would be release as the third . He also offered me help and said he would speak to Khalid Sadaf to release my album. I was touched by his concern and liked his over-confidence . He revealed the air which could convince anyone that he might be the next U.S president and that too without being shoe slapped at the end !
We finally moved to the venue . I stood close to the left speaker and the band was cheered to extreme loudness at the Karachi Gymkhana . As he sang , he jumped and as he jumped, he sang . May be my initial jumping streak in my shows was inspired from that too if I come to think of it now . Gumby was amazing with the sticks . Ali Hamza seemed to be loving the crowd and had a very genuine smile on his face all the time . I like Hamza as a musician . He seems somewhat spiritual to me, down to earth and engrossed in his world . Jafri was also doing his job to the core and Ali was entertaining the crowd to its limits . Once again , all the chicks wanted him or the other band members and we left empty handed .
Good that he’s married now and I’m not . ( cheeky wink! ) just joking . I wish all the best to all the members of Noori whatever each one of them might be pursuing in their own domain. Together I think they’ve given us some killer tunes to hum by and a well timed contribution to our pop- rock culture .

I am writing to u after a long time…its good to know that u are safe and well…When I read that you were in mumbai…I was stunned for a second…was not expecting that you would be in Mumbai at that time…Well don’t know if we your fans in India can expect to see you here again…with So much going on…but I think the people to people contact and communication between the two countries should not stop…the people who want peace and harmony are on the both sides of the border…what gives me reassurance of this is is when I see your interviews…one feels that there are people like you there who don’t hate us just because we are Indians… I hope things CHANGE for BETTER soon…
I really feel that if we really want to change something we should change ourselves first… Make a conscious effort towards that…Because that is the only place we can be sure of Changing…
The changed look of the blog is soooo good…the back ground colour is sooo soothing to the eyes…love the brushes…when I saw the new look of the blog,my eyes were searching for red…and I found it…*yey*

but it was an intersting read…I wonder how I will behave n react after meeting you…you are the one celebrity I would really want to meet…
As you have asked who we want to read about…I would want to know your experiece of meeting General Musharaff…you had performed for him…how was the whole experience…

it is kind of ironic you writing a post which mentions your meetings with ‘celebs’..it’s like you’re in our shoes….waiting and anticipating to meet our ‘Ali’…!!:):)
and hehehehe…the bit about trying to be all cool..and in vogue by getting girls to notice you and your friends was hilarious!!!hehehe…ooooo and loved the ‘cheeky wink’ bit too!!!…way to go!! you’re unmarried…have all the fun..!!lol:)…and even though i am not familiar with the then pakistani underground rock scene…you made it sound pretty interesting:)…
and ohhhhh in your concert videos i’ve always loved you jumping all around…with that energy and charisma…now i know where that comes from;)…lol…must have been quite a let down to know about the ‘falsetto’…all my friends in various bands keep trying to imitate the likes of November Rain,Roses and now i can unveil the brutal,heart breaking truth to them…lol…how dramatic do i get???? never mind me…
anyhow won’t make it too long….and as far as the suggestions go…am only tyoo happy to read what you feel like writing Ali ji…so write from your heart like you’ve always been….and great to see you share such precious moments with us fellow bloggers and fans:)

Ur ‘Encounter’ blog brought back a particular, embarrassing memory 4 me 2.
I remember, abt 1998, i was around 14 @ the time and i went to see Shah Rukh Khan.
I was so excited. We knew one of the security guards and he told us that the best place to stand would be by the side enterance, as thats where SRK wil be comin from. By this time, there must’ve been like 100 people behind me.
Then suddenly………………in walks king khan. I was such a die- hard fan in those days, and i tried to reach out as far as i could, just to touch him, feel him…. I was just abt a Centimetre away when this hand suddenly grabbed my wrist, and flung my arm backwards, nearly hitting the poor woman behind me!!!( no it wasn’t SRK, but his godamn bodyguard!!) I was sooooooooo disappointed. But i got to meet Karan Johar, Saif Ali Khan, Vital Signs, Gulshan Grover and Awaaz later on, so all wasn’t so bad! lol!
I did end up meetin SRK last july.I finally fulfilled my dream, even if it was nearly 10 years too late!!
I still dont understand one thing though…….. why do girls seem to cry soooo hysterically when they are meetin their idol. I thought its supposed to a HAPPY occasion!!! Lol!!!

LOL. so Ali you must know how it feels to meet somehow who you so greatly admire…the same is teh case for all of us here…except for the part with u actually get to encounter with them many times where as we dunt even get the chance of encountering you once!!

just came from practise…we have a game tomorrow!! exciited for that and school ends at 2pm tomorrow instead of 3pm…so looking forward to chilling with friend for teh last hour…and mann u have awesome writing skills!! and reminds me of when i went to meet Atif Aslam like two years ago…i was such a fan and when i was there face to face, with teh one and oly…i was simply speechles..with nothing really to say but a sweet Salam…and man i was stuttering liek anythign i dont know what teh hell got into me!! but at the end we started talking and had quite an interesting conversation…

Ali,you know what you’ve left me speechless,i mean how can you write so well,so beautifully and so spontaneously?MashAllah!.I must say that after reading your new blog i realised one thing that it was worth the wait.I mean that you are yourself such an iconic pop star,and here you are sharing with us your encounter with another celebrity,which also makes me wonder how can someone of your stature be so humble,but then i guess your humbleness itself is a blessing from God.I don’t know if i can give you any suggestions regarding whom to write about next because you are the only celebrity from our entertainment industry that i like.Speaking about the encounters with celebrities,there’s only one that i shall remember and cherish all my life and that’s the one i had with you,how can i ever forget it,that a man who i’ve admired infect adored for so long is like right there infront of me.You know each word that you said that day i still remember,it’s like so fresh in my mind as if it happened just yesterday.I remember you being very humble and kind,and as a result i’ve started liking you even more.One more thing that i really admire about you is that you are very generous when it comes to praising others,and that’s a very rare quality,specially for someone who’s so successful,but then these are the very qualities that distinguish you from the rest and make you the person you are today,and make you such a role model for many people including me.

Now I m soooooo excited for tomorrow and takin a leave from school!!!

hey ali!!!hope u doin grt …….yesterday dad was tellin afta I slept he n mom were watchin zid N iwas lyk ydin u wake me up n reason was k I din have proper sleep for 2-3 days so he din wake me up…I hardly had 4hrs of sleep last nyt I’m tensed abt xmz ssooo mcuh k I’m not gettin proper sleep….n 2day der 3days left for my z\xmz I was prtyin wid my frnz I ws not in a 0.0001% to go but dey forced me so I’d too goo n v were out of da city for 10hrs but I’d fun while v were returin it was maghrib tym it was sunset n da sky had hues of blue n orange n it lukd soooo pretty mashallah n ucud c only one star in da whole sky n I cudnt stop myself frm adorin da beauty of da natur n da power of d creator….n on da outskirts of city itz industrial area so u cud c only lyts n huge factories..dees days I’m in luv wid riyadh(ofcourse afta u coz u r my first luv
)n if I say in filmi lang it wud lyk “AGAR KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARBIA NAHIN DEKHA TO KUCH NAHI DEKHA” I really mean it lyk ppl have misconception of KSA dats its strict but itz accordin sharia law soo itz perfect n da atmosphere n ppl here r botn modern n islamic sooo itz tooo gud …n I’m in luv wid city wen I’m leavin it las 8 yrs i used to b lyk riyadh chheee n all coz I’m camee frm india leavin my dammmi so dat was one reason newyz b4 itzz tooo long I’ll go n plzz do visit coz its beautiful…..byeee take care of urself n ahve fun
